Find Knox Civil Dockets

Need a court date, a filing, or a case number in a civil matter? A Knox County civil docket search is where you start. The clerk of the court that holds the file keeps the record, and the statewide court system also puts public case information online. Every entry deserves a careful read. A motion or a hearing date on the docket is a procedural record. It shows what happened in the case file. It is not itself a ruling or a decision by the court.

Searching Knox County Civil Dockets

JUSTICE Search is the public name-based tool for Nebraska county and district court case information. Civil is covered. So are criminal, traffic, juvenile, and probate. Type a party name, not a witness name. Accept the terms. Pick Knox County or another criterion where the screen allows it. The one-time name search costs $17, even if nothing comes back. It returns up to 30 results. It stays open for three calendar days.

A new case can take 24 hours to show up after entry. If you already know the record, search by case number and copy the number exactly. A public JUSTICE terminal also works at the courthouse during regular hours. Give the clerk a full party name, case year, case type, case number, and document request. The clerk can pull a specific record faster. JUSTICE shows case information. A clerk request is the way to get a particular paper or certified copy.

  1. Search JUSTICE by a party’s name and narrow with Knox County, court, case type, or year when available.
  2. Compare the court and case summary to the notice or case information already known.
  3. Open the Register of Actions to follow the chronological filings and events.
  4. Use the courthouse terminal or the right clerk for an image, copy, or clarification that the online result does not provide.

Knox County Civil Search Details

Results can be narrowed by court type, case type or subtype, county, year, judge, attorney, judgment date, and court case number. Not every label appears on the live pre-terms screen. Use only the options actually offered. When the list runs long, an exact case number or a mix of party, court, county, and year beats a name alone.

The official Nebraska demonstration walks a number search through the courts, county, case type, case year, and case number before any detail actions appear. Sample numbers like CI 15 0001235 are illustrative only. They do not set a Knox civil case-code pattern. A partial filing name or a newspaper reference cannot replace the court's own number and status.

Search cluePractical use

County and courtHelps distinguish County Court from District Court cases.
Case type and yearCan narrow a broad result when the active screen allows it.
Case numberDirects the search to a specific record if entered accurately.

Nebraska Judicial Branch Case Information names JUSTICE as the statewide trial-court infrastructure. Both Knox courts use it as their search layer, so there is no separate local civil docket portal.

Inside a Knox County Civil Docket

Nebraska calls the chronological court history the Register of Actions. A public civil case view shows more. It can include a case summary, parties and attorneys, schedule information, judgment information, financial activity, payments, and costs. The docket is a timeline. It does not replace every filing. A missing image can mean several things. It may be restricted, not converted, or older than electronic imaging. It may also sit behind a clerk request.

Context matters when you read a result. A petition, answer, motion, or hearing setting reports a procedural step, nothing more. Judgment information should be read with the register and the controlling order. Financial activity and payments are separate views from a judgment amount. A result does not establish a debt. It does not show that a party owes money or lost a dispute.

Case SummaryHigh-level case type, court, and status information.
Parties and AttorneysThe people and counsel shown in the public case view.
Register of ActionsThe chronological record of filings, hearings, and orders when public.
Case Schedule InformationScheduled hearings or events that can later move.
Judgment InformationJudgment-related data that should be read with the order.

District Court Rule §6-1523 lists the registers, trial dockets, indexes, financial records, and case files kept in JUSTICE.

That is why the Register of Actions anchors a Knox District Court civil docket. The full case file can still hold more than the public screen displays.

Knox County Civil Court Jurisdiction

Knox County Court handles the entry point for civil claims within the current county-court limit. It also takes small claims, probate, guardianship and conservatorship, adoption, and protection-order proceedings. Knox County District Court is the general-jurisdiction court. It covers larger or otherwise district-assigned civil matters, domestic relations, equity, and appeals from county court or agencies. The court field on the case is the reliable guide to the right clerk.

The current statewide fee schedule sets County Court civil jurisdiction at $70,000 or less. An older Knox County page described District Court civil matters as more than $51,000. That conflicts with the current statewide source. Treat the $70,000 schedule as the operating reference. Confirm current jurisdiction with the appropriate court. Do not trust an older web page.

Civil Case Types on the Docket

Not every civil-looking entry is the same type of case. Knox County Court reports civil matters and probate. Its docket also lists guardianship and conservatorship, small claims, domestic-relations categories, and protection orders. District Court adds its own general-jurisdiction civil and domestic-relations records. Check court and case type before reading a schedule or asking for a document. Each court keeps its own files.

  • County Court civil claims within the current jurisdictional limit.
  • Small claims as a separate County Court category.
  • Probate estates and guardianship or conservatorship matters.
  • Protection-order proceedings and adoption matters with any access limits that apply.
  • District Court civil, domestic-relations, and equity matters.

Some categories carry extra confidentiality rules. Adoption material, for instance, is not an ordinary public docket just because it is a court matter. Never treat the public case view as a complete file inventory.

Knox County Civil Filing Scale

How busy is the Knox County civil docket? The FY2025 Court report gives a sense of scale. It lists 186 civil cases, 48 probate cases, seven guardianship and conservatorship matters, ten small claims, two domestic-relations matters, and no adoptions in the reported categories. Knox District Court filed 20 civil and 27 domestic-relations matters on top of that. These are annual filing counts, nothing more. They say nothing about outcomes. They do not tell you how one case ended or how long it stays on the docket.

48FY2025 Knox County Court probate cases

So treat the counts as background. For an actual case, the Register of Actions is what tracks its filings, hearing dates, and disposition.

Civil Docket Settings and Hearings

A date on a civil schedule is a plan, not a promise. JUSTICE shows Case Schedule Information. A separate statewide calendar lets you look up Knox events by date or last name. That calendar can lag when local data entry runs behind. A blank result does not prove no hearing exists.

For anything live, check the case's Register of Actions against the notice, the summons, the most recent order, and the clerk's confirmation. A continuance just moves an event. It decides nothing. When a civil schedule shifts, a later docket entry is often the clearest sign the calendar moved. Knox County court dates walks through the calendar search and how to confirm a setting.

Note: The court and the current order control a civil setting. An older calendar result may still stay visible.

Knox County Civil Copy Choices

The CC 3:29 copy-request form wants specifics. List the court and county, the case number, and the case name. Add the document you need and its date. Give those details to the clerk who holds the case. Fees run on a two-track system. Electronic non-certified copies are free. Mailed non-certified copies cost $0.25 per page. Certified copies run $1 per request by email, or $1 per seal plus $0.25 per page by mail, with all costs prepaid. No turnaround time is promised. Ask the clerk whether the filing is public, image-available, retained, and suited to email or mail delivery. The Knox County District Court Clerk page explains the district clerk's role. The clerk keeps court dockets, judgments, and filed papers for the county.

Which clerk do you contact? The one for the court named in the civil case. The general County Clerk office is not the right stop.

Civil Docket Access Rules

Access rules come from three sources. Nebraska Supreme Court Article 8 sets the electronic-access framework. It covers public court records, calendars, terminals, and exclusions. Rule §2-215 makes filings public unless law, rule, or order restricts them. It also allows electronic inspection at a public clerk terminal. Nebraska Public Records Act §84-712 adds a general copying and inspection framework. Court-specific rules still apply.

Availability still depends on the record and even the field. Sealed records, juvenile information, adoption records, presentence or predisposition materials, and protected exhibits are not ordinary public copies. The court can explain the right request route. An online case result never promises release of every item.

Access point: Public online case information, a courthouse JUSTICE terminal, clerk assistance for a specific record, and a properly identified copy request are different channels. Use the channel that matches the record needed.

Knox County Civil Records Over Time

Just because an image is missing online does not mean the proceeding never happened. The file may never have been converted. It may be too old for electronic imaging. It may be restricted, or it may simply need a request through the clerk. Under the District Court retention schedule, the Register of Actions is permanent. Older supporting papers can sit in historical formats or follow their own retention treatment.

That split matters for historical civil research. Begin with a case number or party name in JUSTICE. Identify the court. Then ask the clerk for a specific document. One more thing: the records-search policy does not oblige the court to issue a no-record-found certificate. That applies even when a search turns up nothing.
